Human Action

Kipapa Elementary School was established in 1932 to serve a pineapple plantation community. The elementary school currently recieves Title I funds and works around the state modified year-round calendar. Kipapa provides numerous parent programs and coffee hours to directly connect and interact with the shcool, such as the school's Brown Bag program designed to have parents interact with their children and their teachers in curriculum based activities.

The school has 603 students enrolled in the 2014-2015 school year, 558 (92.5%) of which were enrolled for the enitre school year. Kipapa Elementary's school community population of 53,951 people (out of the grand total of 1,360,301 people living in the state of Hawaii), who occupy the 14, 309 family households (within the school community area (where students currently live and/or individuals contribute to the school)).

Kipapa Elementary School focuses on educating "the whole child", meaning the school currently provides some programs (such as a performing arts teacher and GT program) beside the common core to tend to the student's passions. RTI, the Literacy Room, tutoring by part-time volunteers, Achieve 3000 (also known as KidBiz), A+ partnership, and counselors are some programs set up to achieve this goal. The school is eager to accept additional programs when available in order to further expand the reality of the goal (such as accepting my curriculum!).

Kipapa Elementary does not currently participate in the Farm to School program, which supports local farmers and businesses by purchasing local foods, providing education on agriculture, health, and nutrition to the students, and provide engaging, hands-on activities that go beyond the classroom.
